Start an Action Group
Anyone can start an Action Group. You might be a union activist, an environmental rep or learning rep, or an ordinary union member. You can even start an Action Group if you are not involved in a union at all.
Action Groups are groups of people who agree to meet for about six sessions, to take action on climate change. Action Groups can select from a menu of seven different areas to work on. After this, the Group may end, or it may decide to work on a new area, or to design its own programme of action.
There are three simple steps to forming an Action Group:
1: If you haven't already done so, please register as a member of Climate Solidarity, and fill out our introductory survey
2: Go to the 'Action Packs' link in the left hand menu and download the Introductory Pack. This will give you all the information that you need for an initial session.
3: Get together a group of people - colleagues, union members, friends - for an initial session. You might want to use an event such as a 'low fuel MOT' or a 'local food feast' to attract interest. Contact us for more ideas. You can then decide what Action topic to work on, where and how to meet, and so on. Don't forget to tell us about your group, so that we can post it on our interactive map.
If you'd like to start an Action Group but feel you need a bit more support, then free half-day trainings are available which explain the process and materials in more detail.
If you'd like to be a member of an Action Group but don't want to start one, perhaps you can persuade someone in your workplace or local union branch to take the lead. Remember that we will provide all the materials needed to run the group.
Please contact us for help, support and advice for your Action Group.
