Eating their way to a lower carbon Lillyhall

A week of gastronomic indulgence may not sound like the way to begin a carbon crunching activity called Waste Not Want Not.

CWU youth get active

The CWU Eastern Regional Youth Committee has decided to use its regional education event to run a weekend-long Climate Solidarity training course.  It will open up the event to all the CWU Eastern regional committees, to promote awareness of environmental issues and encourage the formation of Climate Solidarity action groups.

Eastern Regional Youth Secretary, Richard Wilkins is keen that Climate Solidarity be a top priority for the youth committee and the region as a whole.  Richard has been working hard with Climate Solidarity project worker Maeve Kennedy, Eastern Regional Secretary Paul Moffat, and the CWU Education & Training department, to put together what is expected to be a highly successful event.

Natural England backs Climate Solidarity

Natural England is one of the leading environmental bodies in the UK, established by government to ensure that the natural environment is conserved, enhanced and managed for the benefit of present and future generations, thereby contributing to sustainable development. It therefore seems appropriate that Natural England is the first employer to formally partner with Climate Solidarity to support climate solidarity action groups amongst its staff. Following discussions between unions and management, three pilot trainings will be jointly promoted at Natural England offices in London, Worcester and Telford.

People and Planet and HEFCE support for Climate Solidarity

People and Planet, the leading student campaign group, has included reference to trade union initiatives, such as Climate Solidarity, within the criteria for their influential Green League table of UK universities (section 7 - student and staff engagement). The Green League survey has just been sent to all UK universities, and the results will be published in the Times Higher Education in June.
